Happy New Year.

Doesn't time fly!!!! I cannot believe I have abandoned my blog for as long!!

I have been working on some new designs over the Christmas period and thought I would take this opportunity to show you the results.

First, I have been working on these embroidered linen bags, lined in Liberty Tana Lawn fabric - every one is unique and won't be repeated.

They are on sale in my etsy shop. I have used a mixture of new and vintage ribbons and lace to complete each design.

I was extremely fortunate to sell 41 out of 43 of the pictures below at the 20x20 show at Mushroom Works Gallery in December.

As a result I have decided to concentrate a little more on the pictures and have started to produce more applique pictures in a variety of sizes. The ones below measure ten inches by eight inches and can also be found in my etsy shop.

I'm keen to keep the pink one at the bottom!!! It's my favourite so far!!

First of all can I thank everyone who came to the Shipley Art Gallery on Saturday to support the event - it was a superb day and I sold many items from my stall!!! The Gallery was busy all day and I'm hoping to be involved in another similar event in March 2011.

As a result of the extensive sales on Saturday and a huge order from Japan on my return home, my on line shops are somewhat low in stock!! I am also in the middle of preparing several 20cm by 20cm framed pieces for the Ouseburn Open Studio Weekend at Mushroom Works Gallery, Newcastle from 25th to 27th November!!! Phew - I have a busy week ahead!

I have already completed some framed artwork including the designs below,

All of these pieces will be sold for £20 at the exhibition - 20cm by 20cm for £20 - a fabulous idea and ideal for family and friends who are difficult to buy for at Christmas time!

The Scandinavian Bird pictures were popular at Ouseburn last year so I have made quite a few for this year's show too.

The owls weren't on show last year but have proved popular in my etsy shop so I'll be making a couple of these - this one will be included in the exhibition.

I am also embroidering Dala Horses, Fields of Poppies, Peacocks, Suns (with faces)!!! which I hope to show you later in the week.

There will be several local artists taking part in the show including Jim Edwards and Joanne Wishart. You will also have the opportunity to explore artists' studios located in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle. CHRISTMAS MARKET

I am delighted to be attending the Christmas Market at the Shipley Art Centre in Gateshead as a stall-holder on Saturday. I have had this event booked in my diary for a while. I have been working merrily away creating all kinds of items specifically for this market including some new designs and Christmas themed items!

I intend to take along as much stock as I can physically carry. There will be several of these:

I have made quite a few bird brooches like the one below and have also made some to hang as Christmas decorations alongside some other hanging designs.

I also have reversible fabric pendants on silver chains, hair slides, bags, felt 'peter pan' collars....... I'm hoping customers will be spoilt for choice!!!

The market starts at 10am on Saturday, 12th November and closes at four.

Over 40 stall local stall holders are booked to attend the first ever Shipley Art Musem Christmas Fair. It will be an eclectic mix of hand made presents, food, treats, clothing, homeware and gifts will be on sale.

The Daisy Green team who are organising the event will be handing out goodie bags to all who attend including the first ever handbag size printed copy of Daisy Green Magazine.

There'll be raffle, a gift wrapping service and much more. And it's FREE entry too!

PETIT POT

Any decision made about weddings is completely subjective, and what is best for one person may not necessarily be for another. However, if you are looking for unique and personalised favours to give to your guests at your wedding I have the ideal solution!!!!

Petit Pot is is a new enterprise, which began in spring 2011.

The journey began when Mark Rogers and his wife Suzie decided to make favours for their guests at their own wedding in 2010. They went down a treat (and I can personally verify this as one of their lucky guests) and as a result, friends and family started to ask if they could make the little preserves for their weddings and parties. It seemed a shame not to share these gifts with everybody else, so PetitPot was born.

Mark and Suzie use local Yorkshire producers and suppliers to make their delicious range of personalised home made jams and chutneys. Their current range includes:

Trees, trees, trees.............. I have been trying to come up with a design for a 'tree picture' for quite a while.

I also have a stash of Liberty lawn fabric that I was desperate to incorporate in the new design.....

After several adjustments the new design is embroidered!!

These designs are mounted and ready to frame (they fit perfectly into 23cm square Ikea box frames) and are for sale in my etsy shop.

A new design has been added to my etsy shop - the Peter Pan collar!!!

I have been working on this particular design for a while and it has been adapted recently so it will fit any size. I am hoping to alter the position of the flowers and maybe incorporate some other shapes in future designs.

Dear me, I have finally found some time to post on my blog.

The last few weeks of term are always so busy - sports days, school trips, concerts, etc and as a result I have neglected my blog (again)!!!

I have also had a couple of disappointing messages via my etsy shop in the last couple of weeks too!!! Unfortunately, a couple of pictures that I dispatched broke by the time they reached their lovely customers. The frames in both cases were completely smashed to pieces on arrival at their new homes. Very upsetting for the recipient!!!

It's strange as I have sent out several pictures over the last few months and have never had a problem but two have smashed within the last couple of weeks. As a result, I have debated whether to sell my artwork with or without frames and have come to the conclusion that I will sell my pieces unframed but mounted so they will fit into 'off the shelf' frames (notably ikea; as I know they are reasonably priced).

I have listed a few new pieces of artwork in my etsy shop and they are designed to fit ikea 23cm frames.

I am working on some more designs and plan to make some larger pictures similar to the ones in the photograph below. These were designed for my solo exhibition at Mushroom Works last year!

LIMITED EDITION!

A small bundle of gorgeous linen has been awaiting quality sewing time for two months. However, last week I decided to take the plunge and put it to good use!!

I've contemplated for weeks what to do with this fabric and have decided to make some limited edition clutch bags. Limited edition, because I only have a small amount of each piece of coloured linen (and am unable to get hold of any more) and clutch bags due to the fact that they are quite adaptable (pencil cases, cosmetic purse, etc).

This is the first bag - made from gorgeous dusky pink linen and hand embroidered!

The hand embroidery depicts a small bird and some greenery.

I hope you like it - I have just married up four more pieces of linen with four liberty designs so before too long the purse above will not be the only one in my etsy shop!!!

BACK IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING !

Pheww, at last an opportunity to revisit my blog!!! It has been a busy few weeks which has included a kitchen refit (along with replastered ceilings and walls)!!!! I'll hopefully be able to show you some 'before' and 'after' photographs very soon as we only have a couple of minor jobs to finish and then the kitchen will be complete - thank goodness!

I am back in the land of the living despite a very quick trip to the Lake District to drop off some work at Grizedale Forest near Hawkshead. I have been asked to exhibit and sell my work at Grizedale Forest Park shop which is set in a beautiful location! You can visit the website here and I can guarantee it is well worth a trip. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't too kind to us at the weekend so I didn't take any photographs.

However, I do have some photographs of a new hairband that I have been working on called 'Lara' It includes lots and lots of french knots - what do you think???

This is my favourite colourway to date!

PEACOCKS AND FLOWERS

I'm afraid this is a relatively short post as we are in the initial stages of a new kitchen so it is a little chaotic around here at the moment.

As you may already be aware we moved into a converted chapel almost a year ago and we are gradually redesigning and decorating each room - the kitchen is the final room downstairs to be overhauled!!

Whilst we've been beavering away inside, the garden has been neglected (although we do have plans). However, these beautiful flowers and plants have emerged to brighten our view from the window.

The last photograph is a japanese style climber (I cannot think of the name off-hand)which almost scales the full height of the chapel - I love it!!!

Before I go here is another new design to whet your appetite - for those of you who like the Peacock framed artwork - here is a similar design that you can wear!!! Hope you like them!!!

Another new piece of framed artwork has been added to my range - it's funny as I seem to be focusing on birds at the moment and I'm not sure why???

The owls below are made from several layers of felt resulting in very sore fingers by the time each one is individually embroidered, mounted and framed!!!! The intention was to design a picture which would hang in the family home or would be as equally comfortable in a child's bedroom. I'm hoping I've met the original brief!!!!

The frame measures 22cm with an aperture of 14cm - these two wise souls are available in my etsy shop! They are on sale at $47.50 (approximately £30) fully framed - postage and packing is extra depending upon your location .

Whilst on the subject of birds I have just completed a recent commission for a lovely lady in America who requested a picture which included two scandinavian birds and a flower. I finished this piece last week and thought you would like to see it before it flies off to its new home!

SCANDINAVIAN BIRDS, FLOWER GIRLS AND...A GIVEAWAY!!

It is so gloomy and dull here in the north east of England!!! Consequently, I have taken some photographs of a few new colourful designs to brighten up the day!!

This new piece of framed artwork is entitled 'Scandinavian Flower' - I only have the one colourway to show you at the moment.

There are hundreds of embroidered stitches in this design and it is framed in a 28cm white square frame so is a little bigger than the Scandinavian Bird picture but a little larger that the peacock design. I have some more colourways cut and ready to embroider so I will hopefully be listing them in my etsy shop along with this one very soon!

Below are some new 'flower girl' brooches which are also listed in my etsy shop - I adore embroidering these brooches as each one looks completey different when finished. I am debating whether to give each one a name - what do you think????

I have been so busy making a conscious effort to build up some stock. I always feel as if I am playing catch up when an order is placed as I never seem to have enough of the required items!

Happy New Year - I'm so sorry I haven't posted for so long and I do feel that I have neglected my blog but I have been so busy with orders, then Christmas, then more orders - all good of course!

My last post mentioned the Ouseburn Open Studios at Mushroom Works Gallery which I was to participate in - I made around fifty 20cm square pictures for the event and sold about 80% which made me stop and think - 'why don't I make some more and list them in my etsy shop'! So, I have been busy, busy, busy embroidering Scandinavian Birds and Home Sweet Home pictures especially for my on line etsy shop.

Here are a few examples to whet your appetite!

As you may already know, although I embroider most of the time my favourite craft is crochet and over the Christmas period I decided to make some hats, scarves, etc for friends and family. To be honest I design these hats as I go along so you can be assured that no two are ever he same. As I crochet I may decide to change the colour or yarn depending upon mood and to complete each design I make a felt flower brooch to co-ordinate with each hat.

These designs have also been a success and as a result I have had quite a few orders which I have fulfilled. I have also made some extra ones which I have also listed on etsy.

OUSEBURN

This has been one of my busiest weeks to date!!! As well as helping one day per week at my son's junior school with all manner of christmas crafts (including making angels out of fir comes!!!!) and attending school trips, I have been preparing for Ouseburn Open Studios (26th - 28th November)

The last weekend in November, sees the return of the much-anticipated Ouseburn Open Studios and next weekend promises to be bigger and better than any before! The studios in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle are home to a wide range of artists and designers. This year there are eight venues opening their doors to the public, located across the breadth of Ouseburn Valley. This weekend gives you the opportunity to talk to the artists in their studios and it is also a superb opportunity to talk about commissions.

We have a couple of prints hanging in our home by artists from Mushroom Works.

Joanne Wishart's view of Cullercoats Harbour is on our landing,

and Jim Edward's print of Holy Island is in our living room.

Both of these wonderful artists have studios at mushroom works and will be opening their doors for Ouseburn Studios!

Although I don't have a studio I have been invited to take part in the infamous 20 x 20 for £20 extravaganza at Mushroom Works! Local artists will be producing 20cm square artworks for you to take home for a mere £20!

CONKERS

This is our current collection of conkers - big, small, tiny, perfect, mis-shapen, shiny............ and priceless!!!

We have a large glass vase full of conkers that have been collected over the last few weeks. I don't know how many times they have been counted and examined.......

This year the children seem to be fascinated by conkers.... I cannot recall the same hysteria last year?!?!?!?

As well as collecting conkers, I have been fulfilling quite a few orders in the run up to Christmas, As a result , I feel as if my blog has been somewhat neglected. However, I hope to post again very soon as I may have a couple of new designs to show you!!!

In a few weeks we will be dressing our Christmas trees eagerly awaiting Father Christmas' visit. I love Christmas, especially hanging the ornaments on our tree!

I've just listed some new scarf/brooch sets in my e-bay shop. I have quite a few orders so I'm not sure how many more I will get to make before the Christmas rush!!!!!!!

I realise Christmas seems such a long way off but I have noticed in our local garden centre that shelves are being adjusted to accommodate christmas ornaments, etc. I even noticed in Marks and Spencers today that they have sweet mince pies lining their shelves. I was so tempted to buy some but I know they won't last five minutes in our cupboard!!!

BACK IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING....

After six weeks of no internet I am finally connected - hurray!!!

We moved to a converted chapel at the beginning of the summer holidays and it has been a little chaotic hence the lack of postings.

However, I am beginning to find my feet and a lot of 'messy' jobs such as plastering and building work have been completed so I am able to fit in a little sewing here and there.

These two cushions are for sale at the moment. I thought I would give my followers a chance to buy either of them at a discount before I listed them in my etsy shop. These are both limited edition 50cm square cushions with zippers on the reverse made from designer cotton. They also have a co-ordinating felt brooch measuring 8cm in diameter attached; which can be worn individually! You can buy them via my blog for £24.50 which includes postage and packing.

Have you seen the new Alice in Wonderland film by Tim Burton - I have read mixed reviews but I adored it - particularly Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter - genius!

Were you correct??? I have been working on some new items including a set of limited edition (beach/coast inspired!) brooches which are a little different from my appliqued felt designs. They involve using a teeny tiny crochet hook, fine crochet cotton, beads, felt and embroidery!

We have had a quiet and relaxing weekend apart from a trip to Blanchland on Saturday morning to drop some work off at the Gallery Upstairs in Blanchland, Northumberland. I cannot believe I forgot my camera - it's such a beautiful little village set around a central square. Next time I go I will deifinitley take some photographs so I can share my visit with you.

Today has been relaxing alongside the mundane tasks of washing, cleaning, sorting, etc. However, I did get to make some strawberry and almond tarts (with a few raspberries thrown in for good measure - I was a little short of strawberries!). This is such an easy recipe with mouthwatering results!!

I have a couple of things to show you before I go.

I love painting and despite several attempts with watercolours, gouache, etc I have never really been satisfied with any of my paintings and they always end up in the bin. However, I decided to incorporate my sewing in to one of my little drawings/paintings.

This one below is 'Lulu'! I drew her in ink on hand made paper and coloured her with watercolours . Three small buttons and an embroidered flower in her hair completed the design!

Not to be outdone, my little boy decided to have a go too - I just adore his picture and have decided to buy a frame and hang it up in our home.

Do you ever have that feeling that you want to try something new and you have to do it that very minute!!! It happens to me all the time and today I managed to execute the ideas that had been swimming around in my head!!!

I purchased some gorgeous cotton lace last week in cream and black. I have pondered with several ideas as to how to use it wisely and today came up with this..........

............... a bit of felt, a beautiful piece of Liberty lawn, some felt flowers and a length of ribbon!

Guess what - I have been chosen as a featured seller on Folksy - what a fabulous surprise.

Folksy contacted me yesterday to ask if I would like to be one of their featured sellers . I jumped at the chance!!! You can find my Folksy shop here which has had a bit of a face lift of late. I eventually managed to work out how to upload my Applique Originals logo (designed by the fabulous Bold and Noble) as my banner and introduced a new avatar to my shop front.

I have been tidying the back garden today - mowing and pruning and weeding!!! Gosh, it's hard work.

My exhibition finished yesterday - I have mixed feelings. The show went really well but I will miss everyone at Mushroom Works - such a supportive group of lovely people who have become friends over the short period I have exhibited!

Surprisingly some of the exhibits that I expected to sell didn't and items that I didn't expect to sell were snapped up!! Most of my small embroidered pictures disappeared on Preview Night and as a result I have decided to make some more and hopefully manage to list them in my on-line shops. I usually frame them in box frames but I'm not sure how I would package them up for postage - any suggestions?!?!?!

This is one of a new series of pictures - I haven't given it a title yet (suggestions are most welcome) as it has just been hand sewn on to a piece of linen.

I hope you like it - more colourways are in the pipeline (or should I say awaiting embroidery on the dining room table)!!!

What a relief!

My preview night flew by without a hitch and by the end of the evening there were lots of red spots stuck next to my framed artwork - my bags were popular too!

I am taking this opportunity to thank Nick James for inviting me to exhibit at the gallery and the superb volunteers at Mushroom Works who ran the show on preview night - Victoria, Sally, Katie and Ashley - thank you sooooo much! Also, Justin who served drinks all night without a break - thank you. And finally 'Lovely Lara' who mingled, sorted, purchased, promoted and modelled my wares - thank you (again)!

PREVIEW NIGHT

My exhibition opened last night at Mushroom Works. I felt quite ill all day just at the mere thought of people coming to see my work. However, it turned out to be a wonderful night with lots of friends (some of whom I have never seen for years) arriving with huge beams on their faces.

These 'birdies' are flying off to The Biscuit Factory Art Gallery in Newcastle. The Biscuit Factory regularly ask for new work but this is their first consignment of birds! I hope they are popular?

This is another new brooch that I have been working on. It is inspired by Scandinavian pattern and has followed on from the Scandinavian birds I have embroidered for Mushroom Works show (which opens on Friday night!!!!) I have been sorting my embroidery threads out. It is a job that I always put at the end of my list of jobs 'to do' but it was in such an awful state that I have sat for the last hour and tidied it. I feel so much better now!

This is a new 'tree' brooch that I have been working on. What I love about this design is that they all look so different to one another . These will also form part of my exhibition at mushroom works which opens a week today!

I promised in my last post that I would give you a sneak peak at the items I am working on for my exhibition at Mushroom Works - only two weeks to go!!!

INVITES AT THE READY

The invites have arrived from the printers and it's busy, busy, busy in the 'Applique Originals' household!

Three weeks to go until preview night - the pressure is on!!!

My brother and sister in law designed the invitations for me and my local printer had them ready super quick! I'm so pleased with them.

I have over 150 items ready for the exhibition but am keen to make more. My new range of embroidered pictures (will give you a sneak peek in the coming days) are almost complete but some are still awaiting custom mounts and frames! My aim is to have all the pictures ready for Wednesday - the clock is ticking!

The hair fascinators sold well at the 'Perfect Presents' exhibition at Mushroom Works so I was embroidering some more late in to last night - my eyes are burning this morning!

NOBODY LOVES ME

During our half term break we visited Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumberland. Have you been??? It's the most amazing bookshop - it is one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain and is located in an old Victorian railway station.

I love Barter Books - there are huge armchairs for you to immerse yourself in an array of titles and authors - I particularly like the childrens' books and that is where I found this glorious book - Nobody Loves Me by Racey Helps.

The illustrations particularly drew me to this book and I decided to buy it to remind me of my trip.

The first page ......

When I returned home I became more and more intrigued by the book and I tried to find out a little bit more about the author. After quite a bit of digging I came across a website dedicated to Racey Helps which is run by his family.

Angus Clifford Racey Helps was born in Bristol in 1913 of English-Scots descent, and spent his childhood in the hamlet of Chelvey, Somerset. He was privately educated at a vicarage and later at Bristol Cathedral School. Leaving school he entered the antiquarian book business and attended the West of England College of Art.

Racey Helps married on 8th April 1936 and his daughter was born in July 1937. He used to tell his young daughter a made up story every night at bed time. His first success as an author-artist came during World War II with stories written for her. When the war came, the little girl was packed off to a less noisy part of the country, but she still insisted on her story, and so Racey Helps wrote them down for her and drew pictures to illustrate them, and sent them to her. During this time Racey and his wife lived in Shepton Mallet in Somerset and were hosts to many young American soldiers based in the town. Racey and his wife ran a hairdressing salon in Shepton Mallet, and on one occasion a publisher happend to drop in and picked up one of these handwritten and illustrated booklets and was enthralled by its content. Having established who was the author of this item, Racey was invited to London to discuss publication of future work with William Collins & Son, with whom he first became associated and subsequently, The Medici Society.

Racey’s son was born in 1949 and, for a while, the family lived in Clevedon, Somerset and then moved to Saltford near Bath. In 1962 the family moved to Barnstaple in Devon, and the surrounding countryside was an absolute delight to Racey with its plethora of flora and fauna, and many a happy time was spent on Exmoor collecting potential ideas for his pictures.

Unfortunately, at the age of 57 Racey suddenly suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away at his Barnstaple home.

I contacted the Racey family via the website and Racey's daughter, Anne responded very quickly. She said that the book I had bought was rare and a collector's item! What a find!!!!

READY FOR SPRING

Are you ready for Spring? Daffodils, tulips..........

We had a wonderful half term break on the Northumberland Coast along with a trip to Edinburgh!

However, the snow was an univited guest once again making the small, winding roads impossible to drive along. I love the snow - everywhere looks so pretty but I have had enough of the white stuff now and cannot wait for spring!

Prior to the half term holiday I had discussed having a spring solo exhibition at Mushroom Works Gallery in Newcastle. I have exhibited there twice before as part of the Christmas Perfect Presents exhibition in 2008 and 2009.

Well, I have bitten the bullet and will be having a solo exhibition from 10th April 2010 to 1st May 2010 with a preview night on 9th April 2010. I am both excited and nervous but I'm sure Lara - who is the Development Manager at Mushroom Works - will give me all the support and encouragement that I will need.

Lara is an illustrator and gave me a gorgeous print at Christmas that now hangs happily in my kitchen! She also belongs to a 'Set of Drawers' which comprises a group of illustrators working together to promote their love of cutting, sticking and drawing.

As the majority of my work is on a small scale I have been thinking about making some larger exhibits for the show. I have been working on some embroidered pictures but haven't got round to framing them all up yet so I will show you them at a later date. However, I have managed to design some cushions with co-ordinating flower pins! What do you think? You could always use the pins on your coat, hat, etc if you require a new accessory!

I'm also working on a modern version of a traditional sampler - with felt of course!!!!!

TEA FOR TWO

I did the weekly shop today and when I returned home I couldn't fit everything into the freezer - a regular occurence in this house!

I took a box of summer fruits out of the freezer and decided I would make a crumble for tea. However, as the day progressed I didn't fancy a crumble and thought the fruits may be quite nice in some scones!!! Mmmmmmm!!

I made a basic scone recipe and then halved the dough and sandwiched the fruits beween the two layers before cutting them out! Hey presto - summer fruit scones in the middle of February!

If you fancy trying the recipe here it is:

INGREDIENTS

16oz (450g) self raising flour
4oz (125g) butter
2oz (50g) sugar
2 eggs
milk to bind
selection of berries

METHOD

1. Rub butter into flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
2. Add sugar, eggs and a little milk at a time until you get a soft dough.
3. Half the dough and rollout each piece to about 1/2cm thickness.
4. Spread the summer fruits on top of one piece of the dough and then lay the other piece of rolled out dough over the top.
5. Cut into 2" rounds and cook at 180C/Gas Mark 5 until golden brown!

I'm off to whip the cream!!

I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you some of my recent ETSY purchases. I love ETSy and find it hard to resist several items on a daily basis!

I bought these fish a while back from halfanacre - the colours are fabulous and these are currently hanging in my bathroom!

This is another one of my favourite shops - prodleather. Each item is made via a multi layering screenprinting process which ensures every piece is unique. I already have several pairs of earrings, a cuff and a badge and can see another purchase being made very soon!

These items are also made in the North East of England so we are also neighbours!!

Finally, who could resist these baby shoes - I bought these for a special little baby born in December - aren't they just gorgeous - this is the second purchase I have made from kaboogie. The shoes are beautifully made and so well finished - amazing work.

CHOCOLATE AND RASPBERRIES WITH LASHINGS OF CREAM!

Two of my favourite foods - chocolate and raspberries!

Put the two together and what do you get - Chocolate and Raspberry Roulade!!!!!

Ingredients

2tsp instant coffee granules

100g/4oz plain chocolate (melted)

4 large eggs - separated

100g/4oz caster sugar

Filling

1/2 pint double cream

100g/4oz raspberries

icing sugar for dusting

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180/Gas Mark 4. Grease and line a 11 x 13 inch swiss roll tin with baking paper.

2. Blend the coffee to a smooth paste with 1 tablespoon of warm water, Whisk the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl over a pan of hot water. Remove from the heat and stir in the cooled, melted chocolate and coffee mixture.

3. Whisk the egg whites until stiff then gradually fold into the chocolate mixture.

4. Spread the mixture into the tin and bake for about 15 mins until firm to touch. Cool in the tin on a wire rack

5. Once cool, sprinkle a large sheet of greaseproof with icing sugar and turn the vake out on to it.

6. Spread the roulade with whipped double cream and sprinkle over the raspberries. Roll up the cake using the paper as a guide. Serve with sifted icing sugar.

ENJOY!

GOODBYE CHRISTMAS, HELLO SNOW....

Well, Christmas is over for another twelve months. The house seems so bare when all the Christmas decorations are packed back into their boxes and returned to the loft.

We did have a light covering of snow on Christmas day which added to the excitement and we have had non-stop snow flurries for the past three days. The ground looks as if it has been covered in a soft white blanket and their is more to come too judging by the weather forecast!

Snowman building is a must!

The Christmas period has given me the opportunity to experiment a little. As you probably already know I adore crochet and decided to try and amalgamate my love of crocheting with sewing. Can you guess what I came up with - here are a couple of sneak peeks!

Did you guess - I have been making some cuffs - what do you think? They take a while to complete but I think the crochet with such fine cotton and the embroidery sit well together, I also managed to get an almost perfect match with the felt and threads - something I take quite serious!

This is the black cuff.....

It is made from black, lavender, grass and pale blue crochet cotton and co-ordinating felt. I have attached three pale blue buttons to this one - it has quite a 'spring' feeling to it.

And, this is the brown cuff made from brown, red, light olive and turquoise crochet cotton and co-ordinating felt. This has four small red buttons to compliment the design and has a 'folklore' look to it.

I will be listing these in my etsy shop very soon and hope to work on some more colourways too. Please let me know what you think of these new designs.

A BIT OF A BREAK.....................

In recent days I have hardly sewn. As Christmas approaches, there are so many christmassy things to do - buying gifts, wrapping gifts, sending cards, trips to the post office and so the list goes on. I still have shopping to do and time is running out!

I eventually dressed the Christmas tree last weekend - the ornaments on our tree have been collected over a period of about twelve years. I make a point of buying a couple of new decorations every year! I don't have any room for tinsel!!!

This is the latest ornament to join our Christmas toys. Peter picked him courtesy of our generous neighbour - Susan! Susan will be so embarrassed when she sees her name mentioned!! I love him - especially his gold boots - so glam - don't you think?

On a totally different subject, here is a free recipe from carnation for raspberry and white chocolate cookies (www.carnation.co.uk/cookies). I have often made cookies at home but I usually either overcook or undercook them. However, this recipe is a godsend. It includes carnation milk. The end result is superb. Unfortunately the batch I made disappeared before I had the chance to put the icing on!

The title of this post refers to my break from sewing. However, I don't think that I have mentioned that I cannot just sit during the evening and watch the television or read. I have to be busy with my hands. Although I haven't been sewing, I have been crocheting!

It is...... a new scarf especially for me!!!!

I found the pattern in a small book entitled VOGUE KNITTING - Crocheted Scarves!

It only took me a couple of nights to crochet but it was a bit of a 'labour of love'. There are 72 motifs to sew together which seemed to take the best part of two hours but I think it was worth it!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING

Just a quick post to show you the photographs of the reindeer we visited at the weekend. They are such strong and beautiful creatures. This event was at the Sage at Gateshead and children were invited to pat and feed them!

I'm over the moon!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am exhibiting again at Mushroom Works Gallery in Newcastle from Saturday, 5th December 2009 until Saturday, 19th December 2009. I was delighted to be asked last year and am ecstatic that I have the opportunity again in 2009; as part of the Perfect Presents exhibition!

Perfect Presents is an exhibition of affordable artworks and design pieces by more than 30 artists, designers and makers working across the North East.

I have around seventy brooches to exhibit along with scarves, necklaces, hair ornaments, etc .

I have also been working on some hair fascinators - what do you think??

They can be worn by adults or children as they are attached to an elastic co-ordinating band.

CHILLINGHAM CASTLE

Chillingham Castle is a medieval castle in the tiny village of Chillingham, Northumberland. It has been owned by the Earl Grey family and their descendants from the 13th century until the 1980s.

During World War II, the castle was used as an army barracks. During this time, much of the decorative wood is said to have been stripped out and burned by the soldiers billeted there. After the war, the castle began to fall into disrepair. Lead had been removed from the roof, resulting in extensive weather damage to large parts of the building. In the 1980s, the castle was purchased by Sir Humphry Wakefield, 2nd Baronet, whose wife Catherine is remotely descended from the Greys of Chillingham. He set about a painstaking restoration of the castle. Sections of the castle are open to the public, and holiday apartments are available for hire.

The approach to the castle is impressive ...

However, once inside the castle becomes distinctly quiet and somewhat eery! Its current owners market the castle as being the most haunted castle in Britain (and I can quite believe it!!!) and it has been investigated on television and radio...

The Great Hall has a typical stone flagged floor, tapestries, armour, weapons and the antlers of deer and wild cattle just as in former times It has a rare and surviving quality of those courtly days.

I just adored this chair..........

The castle had collections of various items including these mannequins - very strange????

The James 1st Room, named after the King’s Royal visit to Chillingham in 1603, is one of a suite of three rooms built specially for the future King. It is famous for its Elizabethan ceiling with the gilded ribbing and very finely moulded pendants.

And some of the items on display were fabulous....... look at these gauntlets - so bold but yet intricate.

A collection of rocking horses - I wonder who had the wonderful opportunity of riding the one at the right hand side of the picture. This one was my favourite.

We had lunch at Chillingham which was lovely too. This is the cafe which looks out on to the courtyard. It was very atmospheric and had a huge fire merrily blazing away whilst we ate!

The gardens were beautiful too....

This gentlemen almost looked real!

And finally..... the torture chamber. This was a little gruesome but we decided to have a look round and I took some photographs.

When I looked through my pictures I came across this one.............

Can you see the shadow on the curved ceiling.... I just cannot see what or who the shape relates to!!! Can you?? There is definitely a hand there - can you see it???

I can also see a young man's face just at the top right of the gibbet (cage)! This isn't as clear.

All in all, Chillingham castle was fantastic (and photographs were allowed!). It was totally unique and definitely had something for everyone. Needless to say, if you are ever at a loose end and in the North of England head to Chillingham!

JOLLY HOLIDAYS

Last week was half term and we booked a superb cottage in the coastal village of Beadnell in rural Northumberland. Beadnell isn't far from one of my favourite spots - Holy Island.

Holy Island is a tidal island which is accessed by a paved causeway. The North Sea covers the causeway twice a day so you have to check the tide timetables to make sure crossing the causeway is safe. The timetable varies considerably and over the years many vistors have been caught out by the fast approaching North Sea.

The views across the causeway on the way back to the mainland were superb - quite eerie!

Beadnell was a superb location too. Peter had a great time on the beach and many of Northumberland's finest castles were within a short distance - Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, Dunstanborough Castle, Chillingham Castle, to name but a few!

My parents bought me a fabulous camera for my birthday in March and I haven't really had a chance to try out the hidden extras so quite a bit experimentation with settings, etc went on whilst at Beadnell!

If you like the quiet life and breathtaking views of coast and countryside, Northumberland is definitely the place to go!

I love these photographs of the worn paint on the boats in the harbour - the colours are amazing!

I have so many photographs to show you - especially from our visit to Chillingham castle - the most weird and wonderful castle I have ever visited - and Alnwick Castle and it's amazing tree house; but I think I will leave those for my next post!

CROCHET MASTERCLASS

I love crochet and dabble every now and again but Elin Thomas' work is unbelievably beautiful!! The attention to detail and incorporation of buttons, beads, etc has to be seen to be believed.

Elin specialises in extremely neat, small crochet using size 20 threads and 1.00 crochet hook.

I love the colours in this ring - definitely eye-catching!

I adore this necklace - it would co-ordinate with so many items in my wardrobe!

This cuff is beautiful - precise stitching, beautifully finished and a handmade polymer clay bead to complete the look. What more can you want to jazz up that little black dress!

AUTUMN SCARVES

I have been working on some new projects including some bright autumn scarves with co-ordinating brooches. They will brighten up any outfit and make a unique christmas present.

PRESENTING 'VINTAGE BOUQUET' BROOCHES - CHRISTMAS GIFTS?

I cannot believe how quickly these 'vintage bouquet' brooches are being snapped up. You'll be happy to know I am busy making some more and will list them in my shops as soon as I have embroidered them. I think they look so much nicer on the Applique Originals cards (thank you Jane and David) and make a perfect Christmas gift for the 'girl who has everything'.

I am hoping to list some new items in time for Christmas - brooches with co-ordinating hair clips, leather appliqued bags, pendants with matching sterling silver earrings (so cute) and some gorgeous bag/brooch sets.

I have had some orders to fulfil for several galleries/shops over the last couple of weeks so have not stocked my shops with as many items as I'd hoped for. However, fingers crossed there is light at the end of the tunnel and I will be stocking up very soon!

SINGIN' HINNIES

Singin' Hinnies - one of my favourite scones and a North Eastern (England) delight. Singin' Hinnies get their name from the fact that they are so rich that they sing and sizzle while they cook. I've tried several recipes for these scones but this one certainly is the best to date.

Usually the scones are cooked in a pan but these are cooked in the oven.

Ingredients

25oz (700g) self raising flour

8oz (215g) margarine

4oz (115g) caster sugar

1/2 pt milk

8oz (230g) currants

Rub flour and margarine together in a bowl until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and currants and then add milk until you get a soft dough. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch. Cut out approximately twelve large rounds and place on a greased baking tray. Bake at Gas 4, 180 C or 350 F. After 7 minutes turn and flatten the rising Hinnie. Cook for a further 7 minutes until golden brown.

Serve warm with butter!!!

NEW DESIGNS IN THE MAKING

I have been working on some new accessories recently and have received an order from a local gallery to make some more of the designs below for their winter exhibition.

This is a leather clutch bag that I have designed and appliqued by machine. The flower design is also made from soft leather - it is lined with liberty lawn.

The design below is a felt necklace with appliqued flowers which lies flat on your neck. The earrings are made from felt and have sterling silver posts and butterfly backs. These look great with a crisp, white shirt!

I'm debating whether to make up some of these for my etsy shop as I think they would make great Christmas gifts! What do you think??

POTS OF POTATOES

My dad planted some potatoes earlier in the year for me in two large tubs (as I don't have enough room in my garden for a vegetable patch). I have been itching to put my hand into the tubs and discover what has happened over the summer months!

Yesterday, I decided to unearth the rsults.

These are the postatoes from the first tub - I'm not sure ofthe variety but they have very smooth skins and I took out about 4 lbs.

These are the potatoes from the second tub - they are called anya potatoes - they have a nutty distinctive taste and are quite 'knobbly'. These were a bit of an experiment. We took some out of a bag from the local supermarket and let them go to seed. I am delighted with the results!

As you are probably already aware, all of my items are unique so Applique Originals fits the bill perfectly!

I have just collected a huge batch of cards from the printers. I have used an off-white recycled card and the print is grey (I thought this would compliment most colours). The cards will be used to display my brooches and I must say they look fabulous - I am over the moon!

I have also been working hard on my website over the last couple of days - uploading my new logo, etc. I have had no formal training but have managed to muddle my way through the set up - mainly through trial and error! I would be grateful for any feedback?

YORKSHIRE BEAUTY

I have just returned from a week in Whitby (apologies for the lack of posts) -have you ever been to this beautiful seaside town? It'a beautiful coastal resort and we were fortunate to be there during the annual Folk Festival! The views from our appartment were fabulous.

Whilst in Whitby we drove to a little place called Ravenscar. Despite spending many holidays as a child in North Yorkshire and the Esk Valley I had never ever been to Ravenscar and we decided to take the plunge - we weren't disappointed.

We drove along the small winding country road and stopped at the Raven Hall Country House Hotel which was located just before the road sign for Ravenscar The views were unbelieveable and we decided to have lunch which was also fantastic.

At the turn of the century, plans were made to turn Ravenscar into a tourist resort to rival the popularity of nearby Scarborough. Roads were made, houses were built and sewers were laid.
However, Ravenscar's popularity never soared, mainly due to the long trek needed to reach the rocky beach. This is Ravenscar - the coastal town that never was!!

Despite the non-existent resort the railway platform is still completely intact at the top of the village square. Ravenscar was originally called 'Peak' hence the name on the platform! It is beautifully decorated and in superb condition.

I love this carving. It shows the children who were evacuated to this part of the country and their parents waving them off!

We made the long walk down to the beach at Ravenscar to look for fossils and we weren't disappointed!

I took my sewing with me whilst on holiday and managed to get a few brooches completed including a couple of huge 'Abundance' brooches -10cm in diameter - not for the faint hearted!!!

ABUNDANCE

I had a request last week to make a custom order for a special customer who has bought several of my brooches over a period of time.

The lovely lady asked me to make a brooch 10cm in diameter with as many colours as I could incorporate. A little large for a brooch you may think ! Well, here is the finished 'Abundance Brooch'. I thought the title was appropriate as there are an abundance of flowers within this design!

I have decided to make a few more of this design in a variety of colourways - I think they'd look great on a winter coat to brighten up one of the many cold wintery days we experience!

What do you think - too big, too bright, too many flowers, just right, vibrant, over the top???

THE GARDEN STATION

We enjoyed a gorgeous day last week. I took my parents and Peter along with his friend (the little girl next door) up to Northumberland. We visited the Roman Fort at Corbridge which is an impressive site and well worth a visit.

Then we decided to seek refreshments at a gorgeous location - 'The Garden Station' near Langley.

The Garden Station is a restored Victorian railway station in a woodland setting and has a cafe as well as providing courses in Gardening, Environment, Art, Sculpture and Writing. The cafe uses seasonal, local and organic ingredients and specialises in real, tasty dishes, including excellent soups and home-baked bread.

There are plenty of photo opportunities including several wire sculptures along the trail from the cafe.

There are also many unusual and beautiful plants. This mushroom in the woods was almost surreal!

FLOWER SHOW

We decided to go to the Gateshead Flower Show today. It is an extremely popular event but I have to confess I have never been before. So come rain or shine I was determined to go! Fortunately we awoke to a gorgeous day and headed off early to miss the traffic - without success!

Admission was £7 for adults and £3 to park which I personally think is a 'tad' expensive but nevertheless we entered the showground with high expectations and we weren't disappointed.

First stop, the cake stall!

Then, we entered the marquee displaying the floral arrangements - it was hard to pick a favourite. This arrangement was dedicated to the 1920s/1930s - very nostalgic.

In total contrast , a very modern arrangement which was one of my favorites.

The colours in this one were amazing.

There were some more unusual displays. A cacti lover's delight.

And amazingly perfect bonsai trees

The flowers were beyond beautiful. Although this sign said 'geraniums' these are in fact begonias! They were gigantic and attracted quite a crowd.

The smell from these lilies was so intense it took your breath away.

Even the vegetable arrangements were works of art - I was fascinated by this one in particular - where do you start?

If you live in the North East, the show is on until Sunday and is open from 10am until 5pm.

A PROMISE IS A PROMISE

Do you remember this post. Well I promised I would show you an item that I have been working on for my etsy shop. I must confess I have already listed it - what do you think? The applique on the bag seemed to take ages!

And, do you remember the bag I made (see photograph below)? I took it with me today when I went shopping and whilst in a book shop with my little boy I heard a voice - 'I love your bag - where did you get it?' I jumped a little and turned round to find one of the shop assistants smiling at me. I explained that I had made it myself and she asked if I had any for sale. I was so pleased. I always feel a little self conscious when I go out wearing something I have made.

For a few days I have been wondering whether to make some of these bags to sell in my shop but they are much more labour intensive than my brooches and I would want to make sure everyone was unique.

However, I must admit I have one just about finished and the colours picked out for a second one so I have decided to give it a go! Fingers crossed!

BEDE'S WORLD

I only live a stone's throw away from a fabulous museum - 'Bede's World'. We are season ticket holders and visit regularly so I thought I would share some of museum's highlights with you.

The extraordinary life of the Venerable Bede (AD 673-735) created a rich legacy that is celebrated today at Bede's World, Jarrow, where Bede lived and worked 1300 years ago. The museum hosts;

an interactive Age of Bede exhibition in the stunning new museum building,
the site of the Anglo Saxon monastey - St Pauls - along with its medieval monastic ruins,
a herb garden
recreated timber buildings
an Anglo saxon demonstration farm
a cafe within historic Jarrow Hall
and, a museum gift and book shop

This is the entrance to the museum. It wasn't until recently that I realised that the roof was open!

The gardens have an abundance of unusual flowes and plants - specifically plants that were used as dyes or medicinal purposes.

A WONDERFUL END ...... TO A DISASTROUS WEEK

What a week!!

It began with two boxes of flat-pack furniture which I 'nearly' assembled with my Dad. Unfortunately, towards the end of the project we were unable to fit a couple of the final pieces together. The main pieces just did not fit (and I have assembled many items in my time)!!! We had to dismantle both pieces of furniture (which took at least a couple of hours)and attempt to fit them back into their boxes so I could return them to the shop - the Krypton Factor springs to mind!

The following day, we purchased and assembled some new furniture from Ikea (which was so easy to put together). Just as we had finished the self assembly project, we discovered water pouring through our kitchen ceiling. The water was coming from the bathroom overhead- the plughole had somehow unattached itself to the pipe!! Everywhere was soaking and I used about eight large tiles to mop up the mess along with several buckets and containers. As a result, we have a large hole in our ceiling and the wall is soaking!!! We have decided to leave the ceiling for the minute until it has completely dried out. Nightmare!!!

On the other hand, whilst flicking through the pages of Etsy I came across a book in VintageUK's fabulous shop. For some reason I knew I had to buy it but did not really know why I had the urge to make such a purchase . I felt as if I recognised the cover but I wasn't sure where from. Anyway, to cut a long story short I bought the book and it arrived quickly; beautifully packaged.

As soon as I opened the book I thought .........ELEPHANT!!!!!!!!!!! Do you remember this post?

Lo and behold, this book was the 'very' one I used at junior school to make a felt elephant with my fabulous teacher Mrs Cook! I was so pleased when I saw the photograph below in the book.

The book is a fantastic source of patterns and stitches. I feel a sudden urge to start making toys again!!!! Watch this space!

Finally, before I go I wanted to show you this. I bought Peter some watercolours at the beginning of the week and he has been desperate to use them. My parents (both retired art teachers) sat with him and explained to him how to use them ! This is his first attempt!

GARDEN DELIGHTS....

It has finally stopped raining -I thought I was going to have to put my sewing to one side and build an ark. There has been lots of localised flooding but thankfully nothing too serious. It is warm and sunny here today and I have finally been able to venture into the garden to see how my plants and flowers are coming along......................

We have already had tomatoes and spring onions to eat. The blueberries are nearly fully grown and we are anxiously waiting for them to change colour! I only have the one plant in a large tub but it's nice to think we can just wander into the garden and pick some fruit to make some muffins!

The pepper plant has grown quickly in the last couple of weeks and although the peppers are tiny at the moment there are plenty of them!

My 'herb planter' is looking very healthy - my dad has also planted some lettuces in here and they are growing rapidly. Whenever I walk past the herbs I cannot resist picking a couple of leaves and smelling them - my favourite is basil!

My neighbour gave me a tray of livingsone daisies and they are now smiling at me from the borders. I love the fact that they close at night or when it is cloudy and then open their delicate petals again once the sun is out. What a lovely existence?

I have two hydrangeas - a blue/purple lace variety in the front garden and this reddy pink delight in the back garden. I have already cut a couple of stems for the house but I will have to try to resist cutting any more.

This plant was originally from my parent's house. I think it grew too large and my dad split it. It is the first year it has flowered in my garden - I'm not sure of the name. It's vertical thorny flowers can also be dried to use as an everlasting flower - or so I believe.

And finally one of my favourite plants, the hardy fuschia! I love this variety - hot pin and lilac flowers - they look like little ballerinas!

I have been working on a new item for my etsy shop (slightly different from my usual flower brooches and occasional scarves) and although it is complete the photographs did not work out well. Hopefully, I will take some more photos in the next day or two and I will post them asap.

GRANNY SQUARE PROJECT!

I have finally finished my granny square project that I orginially started in May 2009. This project was inspired by Vanessa and her colourful crochet squares! I'll give you a little peak first - I am so pleased with the result.

My mum is a super sewer! She has very kindly sewn the lining into the bag which is made from a Liberty of London cotton lawn - very soft. The handles are reinforced with iron-on interfacing. I cannot wait to use it. I carefully selected the colours to match my current wardrobe!

Do you like it - I hope you do!

Before I go I thought I would let you see what I have been designing and making! A new brooch - what a surprise!

I wanted to produce a brooch with a very modern, arty look! I looked at paintings by Kandinsky and Miro and as a result this new circular design was born! It has lots of fine detail!

On Saturday I drove up the wonderful Northumberland coast with my parents and Peter. My husband was successfully traversing the country on his pedal bike (known as the C2C) and I had an eary appointment at Belford Craft Gallery in Northumberland. Belford Craft Gallery is a small but superb gallery selling local artist's work. Fotunately, the lady I met agreed to exhibit my work in the craft gallery and I left with fewer brooches than I had arrived with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On our way home we called at Bamburgh and ate delicious crab sandwiches in the superb Copper Kettle tea rooms; before descending upon my favourite part of the Northumberland coast - can you guess where it is. Here are a couple of clues ......................

If you haven't already guessed - it's Alnmouth! Alnmouth is a small, picturesque village situated at the mouth of the River Aln, on the Northumberland coast. It is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which stretches from the Borders in the north to Amble in the south of the region.

The village was an important port until a huge storm in the early 1800's changed the flow of the River Aln and cut off the towns old church (the location of the church is marked by a large wooden cross visible across the river which you can see on my first photograph). Today the estuary is used by pleasure crafts and small fishing boats and is only accessible around high tide to those with good knowledge of the waters.

If you are ever driving along the Northumberland Coastal route you will see the ever so pretty row of houses lining the River Aln - all painted different colours! I think it is one of my favourite 'views'.

ANYONE FOR CAKE?

I thought I would share this photograph with you of the cake that I made on Sunday. I love lemons and have adapted this recipe from a number of cakes that I have made in the past. The result is a really light, moist cake which is ideal for long hot summer days. It lasts for about three days too as long as it is covered well.

Here we go. We'll start with the ingredients:

175g/6oz caster sugar
175g/6oz margarine
3 eggs
175g/6oz self raising flour
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
5 tbsp lemon curd
125g/4oz icing sugar
finely grated rind AND juice of one lemon

Method

1) Preheat the oven to 170F / Gas Mark 3 - grease and line the bottom of a 7inch/8inch deep cake tin.

2) Cream the sugar and margarine together until light and fluffy.

3) Whisk the eggs together and gradually beat into the creamed mixture.

4) Add the orange juice with a little of the self raising flour and then fold the remaining flour into the creamed mixture with a metal spoon.

5) Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin.

6) Dot the lemon curd randomly across the top of the mixture. Using a skewer swirl the lemon curd through the mixture.

7) Bake in preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes.

8) Once the cake is cool, sift the icing sugar into a bowl and add the grated lemon rind and juice. Beat the mixture together and cover the top of the cake.

This is an updated version of an old design that I haven't made for quite a while. I purchased the gorgeous shell 'star' buttons and immediately thought they would look great on these brooches.

This is a new design - the 'Elizabethan' brooch - they almost look as if they have been painted as the embroidery looks like brush strokes - I hope you like them!

It's quite dull here in Newcastle today. We had quite a few heavy showers last night including hailstones (in June!!!).

This post is intended to brighten your day! I have been working on some new 'vintage' looking brooches. These are quite large measuring 9cm wide by 7cm in length. However, they are very versatile and would be a great addition to your wardrobe.

I have one which I wear on a summer jacket but due to the large number of colours included in the design, I also wear it on a co-ordinating cardigan and a couple of my summer tops!

I hope you like this new design.

I am desperately trying to finish a crochet project and hope to show you some pictures in the next few days. The crochet is finished but I have to do a little sewing to complete the article?

As you may already know my work is for sale in several boutiques and galleries in the UK and abroad. My favourite local gallery is The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle and I was honoured (to say the least) when they approached me to exhibit my work. They took a sample of my work in February and - fingers crossed - sales have gone from strength to strength. It truly is a wonderful gallery with some amazing works of art - all of which are for sale. The Black Door Restaurant is also situated in the building along with a fabulous roof top cafe!

I picked up the latest copy of their magazine 'Fresh' (which you can have delivered to your door if you sign up to their newsletter - you will also be invited to preview evenings!)...........

and to my surprise my work was featured in the jewellery section. I didn't write the 'blurb' about myself but I think the words are just lovely!

Another publication that featured my work this month was Sew Hip magazine. This is a brilliant magazine for novice and experienced sewers alike! This is the front page.....

.... and this is my little feature on the 'Things we Love' page - aaaaaahhhh!

I feel so lucky! People have taken the time to write about my work!

Finally, on a totally different subject - here are the first radishes from my garden. I only have a small garden but have planted some vegetables in large pots! I think it looks like salad for tea!!!

I have been tinkering with a few new design ideas recently. As well as making brooches, I produce scarves and bags but I love working with felt and thought it was time to come up with some new items to list in my shop.

I pondered for a while and eventually came up with this...... just a peak first!

I love embroidering and I love the smell of lavender. So.........I thought why not mix the two together............. and this is the result hanging on the garden fence. Do you like the shells Peter and I have stuck to the top of the trellis??

I'm not sure whether to list this lavender bag in my shop or wait until I have made some more in alternative colourways - decisions, decisions!
